A gas turbine plant (GTP) is an energy complex that uses a gas turbine to convert the energy from the combustion of fuel (mainly natural gas) into mechanical work that drives an electric generator. This process allows for the efficient generation of electricity and, if necessary, heat, which makes GTUs suitable for cogeneration systems.

A gas piston plant (GPP) is an energy complex based on a gas piston internal combustion engine that burns gaseous fuel (e.g., natural gas or biogas), while driving an electric generator to generate electricity. CCGTs can also be used in cogeneration systems to produce heat and electricity simultaneously.
